Home to some of Johannesburg’s best schools – St Andrew’s, Saheti and St Benedict’s come to mind – Bedfordview has long been a favourite amongst successful self-starters.
Nestled in a valley that runs from Linksfield Ridge to the north west and the Kloof/ Pamin Road ridge to the south east, the suburb offers convenient access to O R Tambo airport, the CBD and the northern suburbs which are just a short journey along one the two major motorways that serve it. Bedfordview also includes the grand suburb of Senderwood which has long been a favourite of the Johannesburg’s well-to-do.
An entry-level home on a smaller stand (approx. 1800sqm) will set you back at least R3m whilst the average family abode (a luxury offering it must be said) tends to be priced between R4m and R6m. The top-end of the scale includes cutting-edge mansions seemingly hewn from the granite ridge and these are known to command up to R30m.
A vibrant, ambitious neighbourhood (the Bedford Square precinct is arguably more successful than Melrose Arch), Bedfordview has thankfully managed to retain its old world charm.
